Walt Disney is famous around the world for creating Mickey Mouse and many other beloved cartoon characters. He is also known as the founder of Disneyland, the “happiest place on Earth.”
He was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1901. He grew up in a large family with four brothers and one sister. As a child, he loved to draw and tell stories. He attended McKinley High School in Chicago and also took art classes at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts.
He was a very successful film-maker, who created Steamboat Willie in 1928, the first cartoon with sound, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, the first full-length animated film. Apart from making films, he was also famous for creating Disneyland, a theme park that opened in 1955 in California.
He had four brothers and one sister, and later he and his wife, Lillian Bounds, had two daughters.
He died in 1966, but The Walt Disney Studios has continued to grow. Today, his films and parks still bring joy and magic to people all over the world
