The line graph illustrates the population trends in Vietnam from 1960 to 2020. It is clear that the urban population experienced an upward trend, while the rural population witnessed an opposite trend.
In 1960, most Vietnamese people lived in rural areas, with 85%. However, after two decades, the percentage of the rural population saw a slight decrease to 80%. Moreover, there was a gradual fall in the figure for the rural population to 70% in 2010. In 2020, despite declining steadily to 63%, the rural population remained the largest factor of the population.
By contrast, the urban population rose throughout the same period. In 1960, the percentage of the city population was 15%, which was 6 times lower than the rural population. Additionally, the rural population increased slightly to 20% between 1960 and 1990. After 10 years, it rose moderately to 30% and then climbed to 37% in 2020.
