The line graph shows the changes in the percentage of urban and rural populations in Viet Nam from 1960 to 2020. Overall, the urban population gradually increased, while the rural population declined over this 60–year period. In 1960, a very large majority of Vietnamese people lived in rural areas, at around 85%. This figure decreased slightly to 81% in 1980 and remained nearly unchanged in 1990. From 1990 to 2020, the proportion of rural residents continued to fall steadily, reaching only 63% by the end of the period. In contrast, the urban population rose continuously. It started at just 15% in 1960. Although the figure increased slowly during the first 30 years, it became more noticeable after 1990. By 2000, about 30% of the population lived in cities, and this number continued to climb, hitting 37% in 2020. In conclusion, the data clearly shows that Viet Nam has gone through a significant urbanization process.
