Nowadays, more and more young Vietnamese people celebrate foreign festivals such as Christmas and Halloween. While some worry that these trends may affect traditional culture, I believe that participating in such events brings more benefits than drawbacks.
Firstly, celebrating international festivals allows young people to broaden their cultural knowledge. By learning about how other countries enjoy Christmas or Halloween, they become more open-minded and respectful of diversity. In addition, these festivals create exciting opportunities for social interaction. Students can join in group activities, wear costumes, and exchange gifts, which strengthens friendships and community spirit.
Secondly, globalization is an unavoidable trend, and joining foreign celebrations is a natural part of cultural exchange. Instead of being a threat, it can inspire creativity. For example, Vietnamese people often add their own styles to these events, combining traditional food or costumes with modern elements. This makes the festivals unique and adapted to local life.
Of course, it is important to preserve national traditions. However, I think enjoying foreign festivals does not mean forgetting our own culture. As long as young people still participate in Tet and Mid-Autumn Festival, Vietnamese identity will remain strong.
