Mount Everest is one of the most famous natural wonders in the world. It is located on the border between Nepal and China in the Himalayas. The mountain is 8,848 meters above sea level and it is the highest point on Earth. For local people, the mountain is very sacred. In Nepali it is called Sagarmatha, and in Tibetan it is called Chomolungma. Many climbers dream of reaching its summit, and around 3,000 people have successfully climbed it. The first climbers to reach the top were Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal in 1953.
