Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It is located on the border between Nepal and China in the Himalayas. The mountain is about 8,848 meters above sea level, so it is the highest point on Earth
Mount Everest is very special to local people. In Nepal it is called “Sagarmatha”, and in Tibetan it is called “Chomolungma”. Around 3,000 people have climbed to the summit. The first people who reached the top were Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal in 1953. The best time to visit is from April to early June and from September to November.
