Nowadays, an increasing number of young Vietnamese people celebrate international festivals such as Christmas and Halloween. While some individuals worry that this trend may weaken traditional culture, I believe that it brings more benefits than drawbacks.
On the one hand, joining foreign celebrations offers young people more chances to relax and connect with others. For instance, activities like exchanging gifts on Christmas or dressing up in costumes on Halloween create joy and excitement. These occasions not only reduce stress from study or work but also help young people build friendships and improve their confidence in social situations.
On the other hand, such festivals also represent cultural exchange in the modern world. By experiencing international traditions, Vietnamese youth can become more open-minded and develop a global perspective. At the same time, the popularity of these events does not necessarily erase local customs, because many Vietnamese still celebrate Tet, Mid-Autumn Festival, and other traditional holidays with great enthusiasm.
In conclusion, celebrating foreign festivals in Vietnam should not be seen as a threat. Instead, it can coexist with local culture and contribute positively to young people’s social and cultural development.
