A surgeon is a doctor who performs operations to treat injuries, diseases, or serious health problems. In the past, this job was traditionally done by men because women had fewer chances to study medicine. However, today more and more women are becoming surgeons. The main responsibility of a surgeon is to operate on patients carefully to save lives or improve their health. Surgeons also examine patients, decide on the best treatment, and take care of patients before and after surgery. To do this job well, a surgeon needs many qualities such as patience, carefulness, strong concentration, and good physical health. They must also be brave and able to work under pressure. Both men and women can do this job equally well because skills and knowledge are more important than gender. Having both male and female surgeons benefits patients because it gives them more choice and helps meet different patient needs.
