The pie charts compare the main news sources for teenagers, young adults and old people according to a survey in 2022.
Overall, television was one of the most common sources of news for all three age groups, especially for old people. Meanwhile, younger people were more likely to get news from online sites.
For teenagers, online news sites were the most popular source at 52 per cent, while television accounted for 37 per cent. Only a small proportion of teenagers read printed newspapers (7 per cent) or used other sources (4 per cent). Among young adults, television remained the main source at 35 per cent, followed closely by online news sites at 33 per cent. Other sources made up 26 per cent, whereas printed newspapers were the least common at 6 per cent. In contrast, old people mainly relied on television (42 per cent) and printed newspapers (29 per cent), while just 6 per cent used online news sites.
The line graph shows population trends in Viet Nam from 1960 to 2020. Overall, the urban population increased steadily, while the rural population declined significantly over the same period.
In 1960, most Vietnamese people lived in rural areas, accounting for around 85%. However, from 1960 to 1980, this figure fell slightly to 81%. From 1990 onwards, the rural population continued to drop sharply, reaching only 63% by 2020.
By contrast, the urban population rose throughout the entire period. In 1960, only 15% of the population lived in cities. This increased to 19% in 1980 and then grew slowly to 20% in 1990. From 2010, urbanisation became faster, with the percentage climbing to 30%, and finally reaching 37% in 2020.
Overall, the graph clearly illustrates Viet Nam’s strong shift towards urban living.
