The line graph illustrates the proportions of urban and rural populations in Viet Nam from 1960 to 2020.

In general, it is obvious that there was an upward trend in the percentage of people living in rural areas, while the percentage of the urban population witnessed a decline.

In 1960, most Vietnamese people lived in urban areas, accounting for around 85%, compared with only 15% living in countryside. From 1960 to 1990, this figure fell gradually to 80%, before dropping more sharply to approximately 60% in 2020.

By contrast, the rural population rose throughout the same period. A marginal increase of 5% was seen in the percentage of rural population between 1960 and 1990. After that, the figure grew more rapidly and reached 37% at the end of the period.
