The line graph illustrates the changes in urban and rural populations in Viet Nam from 1960 to 2020. Overall, the percentage of rural residents fell steadily, while the urban population increased throughout the period.
In 1960, most Vietnamese people lived in rural areas, accounting for 85%. This figure dropped slightly to 81% in 1980 and 80% in 1990. From 1990 onwards, the decline became more noticeable, falling to 70% in 2010 and 63% in 2020.
By contrast, the urban population showed a continuous rise. It started at only 15% in 1960, climbed to 19% in 1980 and 20% in 1990. The growth was stronger after 1990, reaching 30% in 2010 and 37% in 2020.
