In my opinion, embracing foreign festivals can be positive if people maintain respect for their own cultural identity. On the one hand, the popularity of Western festivals reflects the global integration of cultures. Participating in these events allows young people to learn about other traditions and broaden their horizons. For example, decorating Christmas trees or wearing Halloween costumes brings fun, creativity, and opportunities for social connection. Moreover, these festivals also contribute to the economy, as shops and cafes organize themed events that attract customers and create a lively atmosphere. On the other hand, there are valid concerns that the growing influence of foreign celebrations might overshadow Vietnamese traditions. Some young people may become more interested in imported customs than in local festivals such as Tết Trung Thu or Tết Nguyên Đán. If this trend continues, it could weaken the sense of national identity and cultural pride among the younger generation. Therefore, it is essential to strike a balance between appreciating global cultures and preserving traditional values. In conclusion, celebrating foreign festivals is not necessarily harmful as long as young Vietnamese do not forget their own cultural roots. The best approach is to be open-minded and respectful — enjoying global traditions while continuing to honor and promote Vietnam’s unique cultural heritage.
