Opinion Essay:
In recent years, many young Vietnamese people have embraced foreign festivals like Christmas and Halloween. While some are concerned about the impact of these celebrations on traditional culture, I believe there is nothing wrong with this trend.
Firstly, celebrating international festivals allows young people to broaden their cultural knowledge and connect with global traditions. These events are often seen as opportunities for fun, creativity, and social interaction rather than religious or cultural conversion. For example, Halloween encourages costume-making and imagination, while Christmas promotes kindness and togetherness.
Secondly, embracing new festivals does not mean abandoning Vietnamese traditions. In fact, young people still enthusiastically celebrate Tet, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and other national holidays. Cultural exchange is a natural result of globalization, and it can enrich rather than erase local identity if balanced properly.
In conclusion, the celebration of Christmas and Halloween by Vietnamese youth is a reflection of an open and evolving society. Rather than fearing foreign influence, we should encourage cultural understanding while continuing to preserve and promote our unique heritage.
