Opinion Essay

In recent years, many young Vietnamese people have begun celebrating foreign festivals like Christmas and Halloween. Some believe this is a positive trend, while others worry it may weaken traditional Vietnamese culture. In my opinion, celebrating these foreign festivals is not harmful if it is done with understanding and balance.

Firstly, taking part in international celebrations helps young people learn about other cultures and become more open-minded. Events like Halloween or Christmas create opportunities for fun, creativity, and social connection. For example, schools and communities often organize games, costume contests, and charity events that bring people together and spread joy.

However, young people should not forget Vietnamese traditions such as Tet or the Mid-Autumn Festival. These are valuable parts of our national identity and must be preserved. Enjoying foreign holidays should not mean replacing or ignoring our own cultural roots.

In conclusion, celebrating Christmas and Halloween can be enjoyable and educational, as long as young people also show respect and pride in Vietnamese traditions. Cultural exchange should enrich, not erase, who we are.
