- Đối với tính từ ngắn :

S + the +  adj ( est ) + Thành phần phụ 

- Đối với tính từ dài :

S + the + most adj  + Thành phần phụ 

 Cách thêm est vào sau tính từ ngắn trong so sánh cao nhất
- Phần lớn các tính từ ngắn:đều thêm  –est . Vd : tallest
- Tính từ kết thúc bằng –e: chỉ vc thêm –st :

- Tính từ kết thúc bằng –y: bỏ –y, và thêm –iest .vd: the happiest
- Tính từ kết thúc bằng một nguyên âm và một phụ âm: gấp đôi phụ âm cuối rồi sau đó thêm  –est
