Nguyễn Quang Hải (born 12 April 1997) is a Vietnamese professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Hà Nội, and the Vietnam national football team. In 2018, he was voted by a panel of sports journalists and football experts as among the top 15 strongest contenders for the annual award of Best Footballer in Asia 2018. Quang Hai is left-footed.
On 13 June 2017, Hải made his international debut for the Vietnam senior team, against Jordan, in a match that ended in a 0–0 draw.[1] He scored his first goal for Vietnam in a match Vs Cambodia On 5 September 2017.[2]
He became popular during 2018 AFC U-23 Championship, as he was instrumental for leading U-23 Vietnam to their first ever final in the history of Vietnam in any AFC tournaments. During the tournament, he scored five goals, and the goal on the final against Uzbekistan[3] had been voted as the best goal in the tournament. It was the performance in the U-23 Championship held in China made him a newly-discovered talent of Vietnamese and Asian football.
In August 2018, at the Asian Games 2018, Quang Hai scored the only goal in the match between Vietnam and Japan which enabled Vietnam team to fish the group stage as first place on their group.[4]
In January 2019, at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, Quang Hai scored the first goal in a 2-0 win over Yemen in an important win that enabled Vietnam to proceed to the knock-out stage as one of the best four third-placed sides.[5] He is also one of the two Vietnamese players named by Fox Sports Asia as among the best U-21 players of the tournament [
