I. Cloze test: Fill in each gap with ONE suitable word. Water is our life source . It makes up 70 percent (1) of our bodies, and the average person actually spends 18 months of his life in the bath (2) or shower. But we are only now learning (3) how to look after water. Acid rain has polluted as many as 18,000 lakes and our seas and our rivers are (4) polluted with waste products. It is now very expensive to try to repair the damage (5) which has been done .We have some hope for the future, though, because new (6) sources of water have been discovered. People living the Sahara Desert have (7) found fish swimming in deep undergrowth steams. Scientists also believe (8) there is a huge lake beneath London. If we have learnt anything from our mistakes, we will try to keep these new areas of water clean .
These days it is impossible to open a newspaper (1) .............reading about the damage we are doing to the environment. The earth is threatened (2)....................the future looks bad. (3)..............can each of us do? We cannot clean (4)...............our polluted rivers and seas overnight. Nor can we stop the (5).............. of plants and animals. But we can stop adding to the problem (6).................scentists look for answer. It may not be easy to change your lifestyle (7) .................but some steps are easy to take: cut down the amount of driving you do, or use as little plastic as possible. It is also easy to save (8)...........,which also (9) ...........household bills. We must all make a personal decision to work for the future of our planet if we want to ensure a betterworld

From the point of view of recycling, paper has two advantages over minerals and 0- (n) oil. In that firstly it comes from a resource which is 1- (adj) sustainable and secondly it is less threatening to our environment when we throw it away because it is 2- (adj) biodegradable. Although Australia’s record in the re-use of waste paper is good, it is still necessary to use a combination of recycled fibre and 3- (n) virgin fibre to make new paper. The paper industry has contributed positively and people have also been encouraged by 4- (n) government to collect their waste on a regular basis. One major difficulty is the removal of ink from used paper but 5- (n) advances are being made in this area. However, we need to learn to accept paper which is generally of a lower 6- (n) quality than before and to sort our waste paper by removing 7- (n) contaminants before discarding it for collection.
Coal, oil, and natural gas supply modern civilization with most of irs power. However, not only are supplies of these fuels limited, but they are a major source of pollution. Therefore, it's important to improve, explore and develop such alternative energy sources as nuclear, water, solar and wind power. Each of these alternatives, however, has advantages and disadvantages.
Nuclear power plants efficiently produce large amounts of electricity without polluting the atmosphere; however, they are costly to build and maintain, and they create the difficult problenı of what to do with nuclear waste. Hydroelectric power is inexpensive and environmentally safe, but impractical for communities locnted far from moving water.Wind power is a pollution-free source renewable energy but it cannot be used many parts of the world where there is insufficient wind. Solar power renewable, it does not cause pollution and it does not add the earth's heat load. However, it ia dilficult to coilect and store. Solar power also requir eensive equipnent
Every source of energy has its disadvantages. One way to minimize them is to use less energy. Conservation efforts coupled with renewable energy resoucs wll ensure supplies of clean, affordable energy for humanity's future.
1. Coal, oil and natural gas .............
a. are very great in amount
c. pollute the atmosphere
b. will never be used up
d. supply most of its power
( Mk đã chú thích bằng cách in đậm key word/ sentense ở trên đoạn văn nhé.!!! )
2. Nuclear power plants
a. are difficult to build ..............
c. are very cheap to maintain
b. pollute the atmosphere
d. create the problem of nuclear waste
( Câu a,c ko đúng vì phía trên họ nói là they are costly to build and maintain : Chúng thì quá là đắt đỏ để mà xây dựng và duy trì ; còn câu c thì phía tren họ nói là without polluting the atmosphere : ko hề gây ôi nhiễm tới không khí. )
3. Wind power...............
a. cannot be used in places that has strong wind
b. is never completely used up
c. is a source of pollution
d. cannot replace itself .
( Câu này hơi khó hơn, mk phải dịch một chút Wind power is a pollution-free source renewable energy but it cannot be used many parts of the world where there is insufficient wind: Năng lượng gió là nguồn năng lượng tái tạo không ô nhiễm nhưng nó không thể được sử dụng nhiều nơi trên thế giới, những nơi mà không có đủ gió. )
4. What is the advantage of these alternatives?
a. They are environmentally friendly energy sources
b. They are non renewable forms of energy
c. They are all very practical
d. They are inexpensive to exploit
( Bn xem mấy câu mk đánh dấu trên đoạn nha trong câu đó sẽ có key words/ sentences cho đáp án nha .!!! )

a. we will have to stop using many of our modern conveniences
b. scientists will have to find one major source of nonpolluting energy
c. scientists will have to find ways to increase our supplies of coal, oil, and gas
d. a combination of conservation and invention will be needed
(Cái này nằm ở đoạn cuối : Conservation efforts coupled with renewable energy resources will ensure supplies of clean, affordable energy for humanity's future : Sự nỗ lực bảo tồn cùng với các nguồn năng lượng tái tạo sẽ đảm bảo nguồn cung cấp năng lượng sạch, giá cả phù hợp cho tương lai của toàn nhân loại )
Tick cho mk nha!!!

Almost all our energy comes from oil, coal and natural gas. We call them fossil fuels. The earth’s
fossil fuels are running out. What would happen if there were no oil, coal and gas on earth?
Scientists are trying to find and use other alternative sources of energy. We can use energy
from the sun, the wind and the water.
Solar energy is unlimited. It supplies all the energy used to grow plants, to evaporate water for
rain, and to maintain the temperature of the planet. All are necessary for human life. If we’re able to
collect solar energy, we’ll be sure to make good use of this abundant source of power.
Another source of energy from nature is the wind. Wind power is clean and plentiful. Energy
from the wind has been used for centuries to move ships, grind grain, pump water and do other kinds
of work. In more recent time, wind power has been used to generate electricity.
Water can also provide power. For a long time, people have used water to power machines.
Some early uses of water power were to mill grain, saw wood and power machinery for the textile
industry. Today water power is mostly used to generate electricity.
11. We are asking the question “What would happen if there were no oil, coal and gas on earth?” because ___.
A. we are now depending so much on fossil fuels.
B. we are looking forward to seeing great changes.
C. we are looking for other alternative sources of energy.
D. other sources of energy can come from the sun, the wind and the water.
12. Which of the following can NOT be used as alternative sources of energy?
A. coal/gas B. the sun/the water
C. the sun/the wind D. solar energy/nuclear power
13. Centuries ago, people used wind power to ___.
A. maintain the earth’s temperature B. get water from underground
C. grow plants D. generate electricity
14. Up till now, water energy has been used for ___.
A. similar purposes C. the textile industry
B. moving ships D. different purposes
15. The word “plentiful” in line 8 mostly means ___.
A. fresh B. natural C. available D. limited
=> Theo mình thì key :abundant
Read the passage. Write T for true sentences, F for false sentences and N for the sentences containing no information.
It is great to have pen pals. In my opinion, friendship is among the meaningful relations in our life. Many of my friends have pen pals and they correspond regularly. A friend of mine once got a letter from the school mailbox and told me a lot of interesting things about her pen pal. That made me excited and I was eager to have one. Therefore, I got online and did some chatting. I was lucky to get to know a very nice Australian girl. Her name's Jenny. She and I are the same age and we have a lot of things in common.
Although my English was not very good at first, we were able to understand each other quite well. My English has improved a lot. Jenny has never been to Viet Nam. However, she thinks well of our country and our people. When she comes to Viet Nam, I will take her to some interesting places, especially our World Heritage Sites, such as Ha Long Bay, Hoi An Ancient Town, My- Son Tower. Through her mail, she tells me about her country. Thanks to Jenny, I know more and more about Australia. I hope to be an exchange student in Australia some day and we will be able to meet.
