Câu mệnh lệnh gián tiếp là câu dùng để thuật lại một mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu, lời khuyên, lời nhắc nhở… mà người khác đã nói, không nói lại y nguyên như câu trực tiếp, mà dùng cách gián tiếp để truyền đạt lại.


🔹 1. Câu mệnh lệnh trực tiếp là gì?

Là câu dùng để ra lệnh, yêu cầu ai đó làm việc gì, thường dùng động từ nguyên mẫu, ví dụ:

  • "Close the door!" (Đóng cửa lại!)
  • "Don’t talk!" (Đừng nói chuyện!)

🔹 2. Câu mệnh lệnh gián tiếp là gì?

Là cách thuật lại mệnh lệnh đó, thường dùng cấu trúc với “tell,” “ask,” “advise,” “order,”… kèm theo to V hoặc not to V.


🔹 3. Cấu trúc câu mệnh lệnh gián tiếp:

  • S + told / asked / ordered + O + to V (nguyên mẫu)
    👉 để yêu cầu làm gì
  • S + told / asked / warned + O + not to V
    👉 để yêu cầu không làm gì

Writing Skill: Giving supporting evidence in body paragraphs

To write good body paragraphs in essays, you should:

1. Begin with a topic sentence. This tells the reader the key point of the paragraph. 

2. Give supporting evidence for your topic sentence. First, give extra details and examples to support your main point. Then, give your opinion about it. 

Details – Older generations could teach me how to plan for the future. They have more experience than I do. 

Examples – My uncle ran a business for 30 years. He is really good at planning. 

Opinions – I think he could help me plan my future career path.

3. Finish with closing sentences. This restates the topic sentence using different words and gives a final thought on the main point. 

Therefore, I think I could learn lots of planning skills from the older generations. It would really help me at school.

Writing short articles in the form of a list (listicles)

1. Create a title. Use words to get readers' attention such as simple, free, easy, secret, etc. Make sure your title tells the readers exactly what to expect.

Example: 5 secrets to a longer life; 10 easy habits you should have to live longer and happier

2. Write a short introduction. Start with a question or an interesting fact about your topic.

Example:

Do you want to live past 90? If the answer is yes, read this article to find out what you can do to add years to your life expectancy!

3. Write your list points. Use the same style for all of them. For lists of things to do, start each point with a verb.

Examples:

Get plenty of sleep

Take care of your teeth

Have a healthy social life

4. Provide detailed information for each point. Include explanations, facts, or extra details to support your points.

Example:

Sleep is the time our body restores its energy and stores new information. Lack of sleep can lead to many health problems. We should sleep seven to eight hours a night.

5. Write a short conclusion. Summarize your main points or suggest an action in your conclusion.

Example:

The secrets to a longer life aren't very difficult. Pay attention to your diet, exercise, sleep, and happiness, and you'll find yourself enjoying your 100th birthday!
