PHRASAL VERBS 

1. Định nghĩa

Phrasal verb (cụm động từ) là sự kết hợp của động từ và giới từ hoặc trạng từ. 

e.g.:  V+ prep: look for

        V+ adv: take off

        V+ adv+ prep: catch up with

 

2. Phân loại

a. Intransitive phrasal verbs - Cụm động từ không cần tân ngữ theo sau

e.g.: stand up, sit down

b. Transitive phrasal verbs - Cụm động từ cần có tân ngữ theo sau

e.g.: call off the meeting = cancel the meeting

 

3. Tổng hợp phrasal verbs 

a. Các cụm động từ cần phải ghi nhớ

  • carry out: tiến hành

  • come back = go back = return: quay trở lại

  • cut down on = reduce: cắt giảm

  • come down with: mắc bệnh (bệnh thông thường)

  • find out: lấy thông tin, tìm ra

  • get around: đi nhiều nơi

  • get on with = get along = have a good relationship with: có quan hệ tốt với 

  • go out: đi ra ngoài

  • hang out with: đi chơi với ai

  • look after = take care of: chăm sóc

  • look around: đi và ngắm xung quanh

  • look forward to = be excited to: mong chờ

  • pick somebody up: đón ai

  • pass down = hand down: truyền đời

  • run out of = use up: cạn kiệt

  • call off = cancel: hủy bỏ

  • catch up with: bắt kịp ai

  • cheer up = be happy: cổ vũ

  • drop in: ghé qua thăm

  • fill in: điền vào

  • get over = recover: phục hồi (sau cơn bệnh)

  • go on = continue: tiếp tục

  • give up = stop: từ bỏ

  • keep up with: bắt kịp thông tin

  • let down: làm ai thất vọng

  • put away: cất đi, cất dọn

  • put on = wear: mặc >< take off

  • set off/out: khởi hành

  • wind down = relax: thư giãn

  • turn on: mở lên >< turn off

  • turn up: mở to >< turn down
