In the East Asia and Pacific region, there are about 137 million teenage girls. Each girl has the chance (1) _______. However, many girls still face difficulties that limit their opportunities. They may experience harmful traditions, gender-based violence, fewer chances to attend school, limited access to skill-building and very little space to take part in leadership roles.

The teenage years are a period when girls can be more vulnerable, (2) _______. When girls are protected and supported, they can feel more confident to plan their future. To end harmful practices and violence, countries need strong laws, girl-centred services and active participation from communities. 1. UNICEF is giving strong assistance to Viet Nam by promoting inclusive education through its Digital Public Goods initiative. O'Connell explained that UNICEF Viet Nam is using innovative digital tools and updated learning resources so that all children, especially those from disadvantaged communities, can access quality education. Two major projects include the “Open Digital Library for Vietnamese Children” and the “Virtual Reality Game-Based Modules for Children with ADHD.” These efforts support learners who face obstacles and highlight UNICEF's dedication to building a sustainable and equitable digital education system.

2. The Global Digital Library (GDL) is a free online platform that provides almost 6,000 books in 82 languages. With support from government partners, UNICEF has adapted the library for Viet Nam, adding early reading materials in Vietnamese, eight ethnic minority languages and sign language. This initiative strengthens mother tongue literacy and helps children from diverse communities. A reading app has also been developed to improve accessibility for learners with hearing or vision difficulties. So far, around 5,000 students, including those with disabilities, have benefited from these digital resources.

3. UNICEF has collaborated with the National Centre for Special Education and VRapeutic to develop open-source virtual reality modules and a desktop application for children aged 6 to 12 with ADHD. These tools support sustained, selective and alternating attention, helping specialists create plans based on progress. By working with Vietnamese educators, UNICEF ensures the resources are appropriate and effective for local use.

4. Alongside its digital public goods, UNICEF Viet Nam is continuing to improve digital accessibility. A recent initiative is “vi vu,” a Vietnamese text-to-speech tool in the Southern dialect, developed with UNICEF headquarters and ATscale. It helps people with visual impairments access information and learning, promoting stronger digital inclusion for underserved communities.

1. On Sunday, Trần Nhân Tông Street and Thiền Quang Lake were alive with activity as more than 2,000 participants joined the third “Run for Zero Violence Against Women and Girls in Việt Nam.” Runners of various ages, genders and abilities took part. [I]

2. Matt Jackson, the UNFPA Representative in Việt Nam, spoke about the impressive number of participants at the event. [II] He said this turnout reflects the community's strength and its shared belief that violence against women is unacceptable. He added that everyone is working together for a future without fear, and they will continue until this goal is achieved. [III]

3. Another speaker, Cherie Russell from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, welcomed all participants and said she was inspired by their energy and determination. [IV] She explained that this reflects a shared commitment to protecting women and children from violence. More than 2,000 people attended the event, including vulnerable groups and people with disabilities, showing that the movement is open and inclusive.

4. Participants could join either a 2.5km run or a 5km run, with both routes symbolising respect and support for women and girls. Besides the race, the event included a Festival of Love and Happiness where people could meet and enjoy activities. Throughout the day, educational sessions helped participants learn about gender-based violence, the importance of acting together and available support services.

5. The event also provided a space for survivors and advocates to share their experiences, helping create meaningful discussions on preventing and addressing violence. Building on previous successful years, this race continued to serve as an important initiative in Viet Nam for promoting gender equality and increasing awareness of violence against women and girls. As runners reached the finish line, they carried a message of hope: a national commitment to equality, respect and a future free from violence.
