1. In many parts of the world, tourists love to see wild animals close up in their natural homes. In Mo'orea, a beautiful island near Tahiti, people snorkeling or diving often use food to attract blacktip reef sharks. Tourists on boats and kayaks toss them everything from frozen squid to human food leftovers. While this practice definitely helps tourists see the sharks easily, it might actually be harming the animals in unexpected ways.
2. A marine scientist named Johann Mourier decided to study these specific sharks. He noticed that blacktip reef sharks usually stay in the exact same area for many years. Because they do not move much, they are frequently fed by generous tourists. [I] Mourier and his team wanted to know how this constant feeding affects the sharks' daily behavior and health. To find out, they caught over a hundred male and female sharks at various locations around the island over three years. [II]
3. The researchers took blood samples from the sharks and found some worrying results. A good way to measure general health is by checking red blood cells, and this number was much lower for sharks caught at the feeding areas. [III] Also, female sharks had lower blood sugar during the important breeding season. The meals given by tourists act just like human junk food, completely missing the important nutrition of a normal ocean diet. This poor diet means the fed sharks are simply not as healthy as those living naturally.
4. Finally, the feeding also deeply affects the sharks' ability to have babies. At quiet natural places without human feeding, all the adult females caught were pregnant. [IV] However, at the popular feeding areas, noticeably fewer females were pregnant. The unhealthy, unnatural diet makes it much harder for mother sharks to have healthy babies. Since blacktip reef sharks are already at risk of dying out, these health problems are serious. Experts strongly suggest that local authorities must strictly control what tourists feed the sharks. Shark tourism is great for raising awareness, but better management is absolutely necessary to protect them.

How Climate Change Is Shifting Earth's Ecosystems
1. In 2018, a scientific group called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a report about the Earth becoming warmer. They found that since the time before factories were common, the world's temperature has increased by 1°C. If this trend continues, the Earth could be 1.5°C warmer between 2030 and 2052. This small increase is devastating for the environment, especially for the Arctic and coral reefs.
2. The ocean absorbs more than 80% of the Earth's extra heat. This warm water is very bad for coral reefs because it causes them to lose their color and die. If the temperature reaches 1.5°C, about 90% of these reefs could disappear. Furthermore, the ocean is becoming more acidic, which makes it difficult for sea creatures like shellfish to grow. [I]
3. As the ocean gets warmer, the water expands and takes up more space. At the same time, ice from glaciers is melting. Together, these factors cause the sea level to rise. Since the late 1800s, the sea has risen by 20 centimeters. Scientists now see that the water is rising faster every year. This causes more floods and destroys land near the coast.
4. Climate change also affects the weather and water quality. [II] Hot air causes more water to evaporate, which leads to heavy rain and powerful storms. In lakes and rivers, warmer water holds less oxygen. This is a serious problem for fish and other animals that live underwater. [III]
5. Extreme weather is another major concern. Hurricanes are becoming stronger because the ocean surface is warmer. For instance, in 2017, powerful storms caused great damage in Florida and Puerto Rico. [IV] Today, experts use ocean temperatures to predict how dangerous these storms will be.
6. Finally, many places are suffering from a lack of water. In California, there have been several record-breaking droughts since 2012. When the weather is very dry and hot, the risk of wildfires increases. These fires are now five times more common than they were 40 years ago. Many forests cannot recover after these fires, and many animals lose their homes forever.

1. [I] Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced rapidly in recent years, transforming industries and influencing daily life. From virtual assistants to self-driving cars, AI is now integrated into society, aiding decision-making and shaping economies. [II] AI is no longer just a futuristic concept but a reality shaping the way people live and work. [III] Experts predict that by 2030, AI will play a crucial role in healthcare, education, and business management. While AI offers numerous benefits, its rapid development also provokes intense scrutiny, particularly about job displacement, biased decision-making, and ethical issues. [IV] Some experts argue that despite its advantages, AI's impact must be carefully managed.
2. One major concern is AI replacing human jobs. Many repetitive tasks, such as office and factory work, are increasingly automated, causing fears of unemployment. However, AI also creates jobs in fields like cybersecurity, machine learning, and Al system management. Businesses use AI to enhance efficiency, allowing employees to focus on creative and problem-solving tasks. While many continue to invest in automation, they must also consider how these changes impact the workforce. To adapt, they need to provide training for employees to take on roles requiring human judgment and decision-making.
3. Beyond employment, AI raises issues related to fairness and privacy. Some AI systems make biased decisions, and their ability to collect personal data sparks privacy concerns. Additionally, when AI errors occur, determining accountability is difficult. Without strict regulations, AI could contribute to the perpetuation of discrimination or lead to serious mistakes. Governments and tech companies are working on policies to ensure AI is used responsibly and fairly. Transparency in AI design is also vital so users understand decision-making processes.
4. Despite these challenges, AI is advancing various fields. In healthcare, it helps doctors detect diseases early and recommend treatments. In education, AI personalizes learning experiences to enhance effectiveness. Businesses utilize AI for data analysis and decision-making. Additionally, AI aids environmental protection by predicting disasters and optimizing energy use. Law enforcement uses AI to prevent crime, and transportation systems rely on it to reduce traffic congestion. In agriculture, AI tools assist farmers in monitoring crops and optimizing resources. These examples highlight how Al can drive positive change when applied responsibly.
